Putin: Russia to invest 6 bln rbl in Abkhazia in 2017–2019

PITSUNDA, Abkhazia, Aug 8 (PRIME) -- Russia continues to support Georgia’s breakaway republic of Abkhazia and plans to invest 6 billion rubles there in 2017–2019, President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.

“Russia will continue to support social and economic development of Abkhazia further, to ensure its security reliably, and to provide full-scale political support,” Putin said, adding that the republic is taking gradual steps to improve its international legal acceptance.

During the meeting, its participants discussed issues of Abkhazia becoming a modern state with efficient and self-sufficient economy. “The investment program about which the president (of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba) has just spoken is aimed at creation long-term sustainable growth. The amount of its financing stands at about 6 billion rubles for 2017–2019,” he said.

Khajimba asked Russia to ease conditions for exports of agricultural products. “We are interested in that and we are filing a corresponding request to the Russian authorities to ease conditions for exports of Abkhazian agricultural products to Russia as strongly as possible,” he said.
